Here are some simple storage tips for your medications to keep them safe and effective.
- Keep it dry. The worst place to store medications is in the bathroom medicine cabinet due to the moisture. The humidity can break down your medication. A good location would be a kitchen cupboard away from heat of the stove.
- Avoid extreme temperatures. Most oral medications are safe at a controlled room temperature setting (58 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit). Never leave your medications in the car or mailbox where temperatures can rise or fall quickly. If you get mail delivery, try overnight delivery or have them delivered to your work office if applicable.
- Keep them dark. Light can break down or generate heat to break down medications. Do not store meds in direct sun or artificial light.
- Keep them handy. Keep your meds close by when traveling by having them in your purse or carry-on luggage. This will keep them from getting lost or exposed to heat and cold.
