Communications & Dispatch
The Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation Police Department has six full-time dispatchers. The dispatchers handle radio dispatching for both the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation Police and Fire Departments.
Dispatchers answer all emergency 9-1-1 and non-emergency telephone calls. Dispatchers also staff the front counter to assist citizens. Dispatchers enter and retrieve information from the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems and the Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (ACJIS).
Dispatchers receive in-service training when they are hired and continue to attend training classes. Dispatchers must obtain a Terminal Operator’s Certificate to query ACJIS.
The dispatchers provide 24/7 coverage for the community and often only one dispatcher is working per shift.
