DEA Reclassifies Hydrocodone Medications

Effective Monday, October 6, 2014,   hydrocodone combination products (a type of prescription pain medication) will be reclassified into a more restrictive category. This change was made by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency after 10 years of debate in an effort to reduce the recreational use of these medications while still allowing it to be available for those who need it for pain control. Unfilled prescriptions for hydrocodone combination products  issued before October 6, 2014, and authorized for refilling,  can still be filled up until April 8, 2015.
