The Fort McDowell Police Department, under Sgt. Jose Lopez’ direction, held two checkpoints along Fort McDowell Road yesterday, 5-22-13.
Thanks to all of you who slowed down, passed by, wore your seat belts and drove safely. A total of 1,376 vehicles came by.
Two subjects were cited for not wearing their seat belts. Yes – they drove past the four foot high fluorescent orange signs that said “Seatbelt Checkpoint Ahead”. One driver even tried the old “I’ll hold the belt behind my back and not even buckle the strap in” trick – fail, fail, fail. Fine schedule = $150
Just after the first checkpoint closed down at 11:30 AM, Officer Berger observed an erratic driver turning onto SR87 from Toh Vee and eventually stopped him in Fountain Hills. That subject submitted to a breath test and had a blood alcohol concentration of .27 !! Yep, before noon, the subject was over THREE times the impairment PRESUMPTION of .08%.
